Aromatherapy – Department of Naturopathy

Aromatherapy and Science of Essential Oils are an integrative support to re-establish the physical, mental and emotional physiology. Our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing are impaired by stress factors such as pollutants, disease, inadequate life tyle, medicinal and drug abuse, exposure to bacteria and viruses and emotional unstability.

Clinical experience in aromatherapy suggests that beneficial effects of aromas or fragrances are not only exerted by inhalation of the vapor but also by absorption of fragrance molecules through the skin.

Clinical aromatherapy can be beneficial for symptom management for pain, nausea, vomiting, preoperative anxiety, critical care, well-being, anxiety, depression, stress, emotional turmoil, insomnia, respiratory, dementia, and oncology.

It is long known that inhalation of aromas causes physiological and psychological changes in humans (Tisserand, 1977) and it is assumed that the effects of aromas are evoked by both pharmacological and psycho-emotional mechanisms.

The goal of the “First Level Diploma in Aromatherapy” is to set the pathway for whomever desires to acquire a “professional insight” of the aromatherapeutic universe be it for a personal interest, but evermore for those practitioners interested in integrating these “natural” remedies into their professional activities and routines.

The Course offers a clear and extensive view of how the essential oils support, integrate and reactivate many physiological functions of our body which leads towards the possibility of adding life to our years and not years to our life.

The course is held by Associate Professor Dr. Steve John Chiola
